Tokyo 2 Tohoku

KataribaEngHome.png

A walk/run/bike from Tokyo to Tohoku to raise awareness about the conditions the people of the Tohoku region are still facing.

March 11, 2015 will mark the 4 year anniversary of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. There are still 80,000+ people living in temporary housing and the entire region is suffering from rapid economic decline.

This is a fundraiser for the children of Onagawa - which was 85% destroyed by the tsunami. More than 40% of the children of Onagawa are still living in temporary housing. The housing units hold hundreds of people so the space is very small limited and really noisy. This has greatly impacted the children because they have no where to study or play.

We are donating all money raised to the NPO Katariba which has created two night schools dubbed as the “Collaborative School”.

Through the Collaborative School, They aim to achieve

1. Improvement of academic performance.
2. To provide students with a safe space to undergo full mental and emotional recovery from the earthquake trauma.
3. To create opportunities for career education by interacting with a diverse range of people whom students would otherwise not have access to.
